Abstract

Myoko kogen (Myoko plateau) is one of the best skiing areas in Japan with many ski resorts. This image shows two old icicle-clad traditional mud-brick, wood and thatched roof houses and an old woman carrying a load on her back, in deep snow in winter. The area is part of Japan's yukiguni (Snow country) which experiences snows several meters deep in winter.
