Abstract
Remains of heiau, ancient Hawaiian temples constructed of lava rocks, are found today on all the Hawaiian islands. Usually rectangular, some hieauwere built directly on the ground and others were terraced platforms on which wooden and thatched sacred buildings were constructed.
