Abstract
Honolulu international airport reef runway opened in 1977 and was the first major runway in the world built entirely offshore on an underwater fringing coral reef, to reduce noise and increase safety by changing flight paths away from downtown Honolulu area. This image shows the airport, reef runway, Honolulu Harbour, Kalihi Channel and Keehi Lagoon.
