Abstract
Kalama valley and Kuapa pond in Hawaii Kai. Built on the ancient Maunalua fishpond and wetlands, dredging and in-filling for Hawaii Kai housing and commercial estates began in 1959. The coastal wetlands were transformed into marinas and channels separated by narrow tracts of land for housing extending back into several valleys and up the separating ridges of the southern end of the Koolau volcano which rose from the sea approx. 2.7 million years ago to form the eastern side of the island of Oahu.
