Abstract

Plaque in the grounds of St. Philomena Catholic church at Kalawao on the north shore of Molokai, just east of Kalaupapa, where the Belgian missionary priest Father Damien de Veuster served and is buried. Father Damien moved to Molokai in 1873 to assist and care for leprosy patients exiled to Kalaupapa peninsula. Mokapu Island in the background on the left and Akala Island in the background on the right of the image.
