Abstract

Halawa Valley in eastern Molokai was the location of a thriving Hawaiian community from ancient times. Devastating tsunamis in 1946 and 1957 wiped out the farms and much of the community. A few families still remain in the valley and this image shows Halawa church, which survives today and where Sunday services are occasionally still held.
