Abstract
A storm surge approaching Hanakapiai beach, 2 miles along the Na Pali track, during a north Pacific winter storm (January) has covered the beach. The strenuous 11 mile hiking trail, follows the rugged and spectacular Na Pali (lit. Big cliffs) coast along the north-west of the island of Kauai, ending at the Kalalau valley and beach, inaccessible except by boat or hiking trail.
