Abstract

The S.Hata historic building on Bayfront Highway, Hilo, was built in 1912 by a Japanese businessman, an immigrant to Hawaii from Hiroshima in 1891. The Hata building survived the 1946 tsunami which devastated much of the town of Hilo. The building now contains speciality shops, professional offices and a visitor information center for the Northwest Hawaiian islands.
