Abstract

The building at the extreme left is the former Queensland Deposit Bank and Building Society building from the late 1880s - it was modernised by the Commonwealth Bank c1940 The building to its right is the former 'Commonwealth Buildings', later occupied by the Commonwealth Trading Bank Both buildings were demolished in the late 1960s and replaced by the present Commonwealth Bank building The 'Bradley and Holland' building is the former purpose-built Columbia Roller Skating Rink opened 29 June 1888 (the skate business collapsed in the mid-1890s) The latter building was demolished c1920 for the construction of the Brisbane City Hall

After the Columbia Roller Skating Rink business failed, in 1894 the building became the "Central Produce Market, in that Large and Commodious Building, situated at the corner of Adelaide and Albert Streets, in the centre of the City, close to the Railway and Shipping, and popularly known as the Old Columbia Skating Rink"
