Queenslander house, Brisbane

Childs, Iraphne R. (ca. 1985) Queenslander house, Brisbane. [Image]

Abstract

Traditional "Queenslander"style wooden houses, elevated off the ground on "stumps", with an iron roof and a verandah, suit the hot sub-tropical summers in Brisbane. This style of architecture originated with the Indian "bungalow" and spread during colonial times throughout the tropical regions of the Asia-Pacific. Renovated Queenslander homes in Brisbane today are highly prized.
