This photo shows a group of Indigenous Australians from the Noosa District ca 1894. Three men, two women and one child. The men are holding spears and two have shields. . The man standing on the left is known as King Brown or Seargant Brown. The woman seated on the left in front of him is his wife Susan Brown. This couple were well known identities in the Tewantin and Noosa region. King Brown of Woolumbah and Susie were the last of the local Indigenous Australians in the Noosa District. In 1897 legislation was passed which legalised the removal of Indigenous Australians from the white settlements. They were taken by the police at Tewantin to Cherbourg Aboriginal Settlement near Murgon.
