Abstract

The Department of Land and Works building in George Street was constructed in 1862. It was extended in 1878 and 1885. Around 1905 the new Land Administration building was opened in George Street on Queen’s Park (with the statue of Queen Victoria) opposite the old State Library.

A two-storey brick building, which is to consist of eight rooms-four below, and four upstairs, is in course of erection in George-street, Brisbane. It is intended when finished to be used as offices for the Department of Lands and Works. The contractor is Mr. A. Macdonald, and there is no doubt but that the contract will be performed in a very efficient and satisfactory manner. (Courier, 17 July 1862)
