Abstract

William Douglas Grimes was the senior partner of Grimes & Petty. He went into partnership with Mr. Petty in 1863 and died in 1896. The Grimes connection with the firm was ended by his son - also W.D. Grimes - in 1904. W.D. Grimes senior arrived in Brisbane with his family [father William] on the Chaseley in May 1849 and was born in Ashby-de-la-Zouth, Leicester England. The store was demolished circa 1970 and replace by the Pavilion shopping centre. In the foreround is The Australian Hotel (1869-1963) -- the building is still there -- minus its verandahs
