Abstract

Dryland salinity is a major problem affecting the agricultural lands, particularly the wheat belt, of south-western Western Australia. Dryland salinity is caused by land clearing / cropping on shallow watertables which bring salts to the surface and render the soil unusable. This image is a close-up of salt-affected land east of Perth.
