The mechanical world pocket diary and year book for 1898: containing a collection of useful engineering notes, rules, tables and data

We inaugurate the second decade of 'the' 'publication of "THE MECHANICAL WORLD POCKET DIARY AND YEAR Book '' by resetting the contents in entirely new type and effecting an improvement in the binding of the book, which we feel sure, will be very greatly appreciated by our readers. The work has always been considered a marvel of cheapness, but to present it in the form in which it now appears, without increasing the price, represents an achievement which is rendered possible only by the marked success of the work in the past, and a confident anticipation of an ever·widening circle of readers in the future. We have been able to considerably augment the contents .• both by adopting a somewhat smaller type and by increasing the number of pages. As will be seen, an unusually large amount of new matter of a thoroughly practical character has been introduced, and the whole work brought well up to date. We need scarcely add that it will be our constant endeavour to still further improve the. work so as to increase its utility as a practical handbook. To this end we shall receive with pleasure any suggestions, hints, or corrections; while, in order to render the work as complete as possible, we invite practical engineers, draughtsmen, and others to submit for publication any tables rules, or data, which, if accepted, will be paid for at a liberal rate.
