Abstract

The Cathedral was erected between 1850 and 1854 by John Petrie and deicated on 29 October 1854. It was designed by Edmund Thomas Blacket, with the foundation stone being laid on 6 July 1850. Additions were made in 1868, directed by Benjamin Backhouse. It was located on what is now Queen's Gardens (Park) corner of William Street, George and Elizabeth Streets. St John's Pro-Cathedral was demolished in 1904.
