Abstract

Jack Bain worked for the Bank of Australasia and worked in many branches over his career from the 1920s to his retirement in 1966. The architect of this bank building was Lange Powell. Erected in 1925/26.

Prior to British settlement, the Cairns area was inhabited by the Gimuy Walubara Yidinji people who still claim their native title rights. Yidinji (also known as Yidinj, Yidiny, and Idindji) is an Indigenous Australian language whose traditional language region is within the local government area of the Cairns Region.
