Abstract

Jack Bain worked for the Bank of Australasia and worked in many branches over his career from the 1920s to his retirement in 1966.

These photographs are taken from the Wintergarden Theatre (70 East Street, Ipswich). Some 50 years after its opening (1925) the Wintergarden Theatre was demolished in 1979.

Ipswich is an urban region in South East Queensland, Australia. Situated on the Bremer River, it is approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) west of the Brisbane central business district. A local government area, the City of Ipswich has a population of 232,000 (projected to grow to 435,000 residents by 2031). The city is renowned for its architectural, natural and cultural heritage.
