Abstract

A photograph of Isabel Bain standing in front a Japanese midget submarine. These are the combined parts of two of the Japanese midget submarines that entered Sydney harbour on the 31st of May 1942 and captured by Allied vessels. After being captured and examined the two submarines were re-assembled and placed together to make up a complete craft, before touring various locations around the country. After the tour the submarine was permanently located at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
