Abstract

Jack Bain worked for the Bank of Australasia and worked in many branches over his career. The Harlin Road Bridge was constructed after the residents of Brassall and Woodend rallied together in 1913 to have Ipswich joined with North Ipswich. Together the community raised the funds to contribute half of the estimated cost of 1,800 pounds. Tenders were called in late 1915 and the bridge was completed in 1918 at a cost of 5,140 pounds. The motorbikes would have been hired from Toogoolawah.
