Abstract

This photograph shows the exterior of the Bank of Australasia and other buildings looking along Brisbane Street, Ipswich, Queensland in 1935. Jack Bain worked for the Bank of Australasia and worked in many branches over his career from the 1920s to his retirement in 1966.

The Bank of Australasia is a heritage-listed former bank at 116A Brisbane Street, Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Reed & Barnes and built in 1878. It was constructed in 1878 with an attached manager's residence. It is now an Indian restaurant.

Ipswich is a city in South East Queensland, Australia. Situated on the Bremer River, it is approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) west of the Brisbane central business district. The city is renowned for its architectural, natural and cultural heritage. Ipswich began in 1827 as a mining settlement. (Wikipedia)

According to The Queenslander (18 January 1934) Ipswich was tribally known as Coodjirar meaning place of the Red Stemmed Gum Tree in the Yugararpul language. (Wikipedia)
