Abstract

Jack Bain worked for the Bank of Australasia and then the ANZ bank from October 1951. He worked in many branches over his career from the 1920s to his retirement in 1966.

Perc Tucker Gallery was named after a mayor of Townsville. The Federation style building was constructed in 1886 for the Union Bank and was designed by architect F.D. G. Stanley. In the 1930s a second level was added. The Union Bank amalgamated with the ANZ Bank in the 1950s and this building became the regional office for the bank. In 1980 the Townsville Council acquired the building and turned it into an art gallery. https://www.townsville.qld.gov.au/facilities-and-recreation/theatres-and-galleries/perc-tucker-regional-gallery/venue-information
